About Bishopton Village
The Parish of Bishopton lies between Darlington and Stockton and consists of around 350 residents.
The Village is essentially a rural farming community, although many of the inhabitants are not from this background. Bishopton is a thriving community that takes pride in its surroundings. There is a great sense of well being and friendliness throughout the village.
History tells us that Bishopton dates back to circa 1,100 AD and was originally owned by Roger De Conyers, it was this ancient Durham family that built the village's famous landmark, Castle Hill. Castle Hill and the surrounding earthworks are the remains of a 12th Century Motte and Bailey Castle.
Refuse Collection is every Friday. Searate bins are provided for general waste and recycleable material with collections on alternate weeks. The Mobile Library with internet access currently visits Bishopton every three weeks from 9.30 to 10.15am. Further information can be obtained from the Library in Darlington.
The village of Bishopton lies on high ground, 6 miles North West of Stockton and Middlesbrough, and a little further to the North East of Darlington, County Durham.
It sits in a group of neighbouring villages, Carlton, Redmarshall, Sterlington, Great Stainton and Whitton.
